Instrument hardware

This section records the principal optical, mechanical, and detector components in the spectrograph. Vendor specifications describe the purchased parts; the instrument model and as-built measurements remain authoritative for quantities that depend on alignment, spacing, focus, or a particular production unit.

The optical path inside the instrument can be summarized as follows: A diverging beam leaves the fiber, is collimated, passes through the order-blocking filter (if installed), is dispersed by the ruled reflection grating, and is imaged by the camera lens onto the detector. The grating mount sets the grating orientation, and the Pinefeat controller provides electronic focus and aperture control for the camera lens.
